Functional Skills Level 2 is an alternative qualification to a GCSE Grade C or Level 4. This qualification is widely accepted by universities and is often used to get onto an apprenticeship or higher education course. The qualification is Ofqual approved which is the highest form of regulation in the country. This qualification is mainly taken by those who have not obtained GCSE results previously and who now need it. Functional Skills Level 2 is also beneficial for those whose Maths and English qualifications were acquired overseas and have not been recognised by the UK education system.

 

Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications help develop practical day to day skills which will become useful. The  Functional Skills Level 2 exam is seen as more realistic than the actual GCSE as they include real life situations in their exams. The qualification will help you get a basic understanding of the subjects which employers look for when interviewing. They also provide more flexibility as the GCSE’s are only ab;e to be taken twice a year whereas the  Functional Skills Level 2 exams can be sat whenever the learner needs to. This provides all learners the opportunity to enhance their employment chances when it suits them. 

 

Some of the courses for this qualification are government funded if you are eligible but if you aren’t then they may have to be funded personally. You must be in full time education and aged 19 or under to qualify for a free exam.
