At Leicester Tutor Company, we offer experienced tutors in maths, English and Science related subjects. Every week we look to write about an effective resource that is available for our learners, this week we are happy to be talking about the A Level maths past papers. They are one of the most key resources when it comes to A level maths as getting to grips with the layout of the exam is key. The papers aren’t always used to their maximum efficiency however as schools and 6th forms often use them as homework assignments and end of topic tests. These result in the papers becoming limited for the end of the year when they would be the most effective.
Obviously for revision these papers are better when they have not been seen before. To help with this we advise our students to try and leave these papers until the end of the year and not complete them until then. Ideally students work through an unseen exam paper, having not done any of the questions in that paper before. The paper is then marked using the official mark scheme or model solutions that are provided by a number of different websites. The final mark at this stage isn’t too important, the value extracted from the paper is in the mistakes and marks lost. Completing the exam in strict conditions and marking it will show you what you need to work on to improve. Once you have understood which areas need improvement, go over the topic and continue with your revision. A good amount of time should’ve been taken in between these papers to prepare for the next to see benefit from them. After this process has been completed over and over you will start to see improvement in your knowledge and scores.
We’re aiming to offer a complete approach in helping students with their A level maths qualification, this is why we offer first class 1-2-1 tuition to let students learn from masters of the subject. These tutors are all qualified and DBS checked with personal experience. If you are looking for a friendly and helpful way to improve your scores, please get in touch today.
